I’m heading to the University of Michigan next week to teach an Ideas on Fire workshop on writing techniques for interdisciplinary scholars, specifically aimed at graduate students and early-career faculty in communication and media studies.
Writing is often presented as the end game: first you research, then you write it all up for publication. But writing is actually crucial to doing research itself.
This hands-on, all-day workshop takes participants through the various stages of writing for research, including writing as method, note taking, outlining and compiling first drafts, setting a year-long publishing schedule, editing your own and fellow writers’ manuscripts, and building your research and writing organization system.
Participants will also workshop a manuscript, getting personalized feedback from a developmental editor and copyeditor.
