Photographic Traces and Cinematic Returns: Review of Garrett Stewart’s Framed Time

Photographic Traces and Cinematic Returns

Article (link)

ABSTRACT: This article explores Garrett Stewart’s claim that despite the stark differences in plot and theme in films such as Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia, François Ozon’s Swimming Pool, Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, and James Ivory’s adaptation of Henry James’s The Golden Bowl, what draws post-1995 European and Hollywood cinema together is a palpable if tacit obsession with the “spatialized configuration of time itself as in its own right a malleable medium.”
