Philly Queer Media
Where queer media meets queer activism
Philly Queer Media was founded in 2012 by Cathy Hannabach to bring together artists, academics, and activists interested in media and social change.
PQM showcased and critically analyzed work by contemporary media artists addressing the intersections of queer political activism and queer media production, particularly work that foregrounds the intersections of race, class, disability, sexuality, and gender.
Because all art is political
Philly Queer Media ran from 2012 to 2014 and hosted events at local theaters, universities, libraries, bookstores, and community spaces around Philadelphia. It featured filmmakers, video artists, authors, zine makers, digital culture producers, performers, and scholars from the Greater Philadelphia region.
Events included film screenings, director talks, author readings, workshops, live performances, and lectures.
